An angry, Leftist reporter threw a shoe at President Bush, an act being touted not for what it was --a tantrum by a man who makes his living disparaging the American/Iraqi war effort-- but instead as an act of defiance, of courage and of nobility. Never mind that the freedom this angry reporter abused was made possible by the target of his tantrum:
George W. Bush.
So while Chris Mathews and others like him, grin through reports about Iraqi people protesting the visit of President Bush, it is important to remember that the very opinions they are now free to express --opinions kept silent for decades-- have George W. Bush to thank for that freedom.
There is a certain comfort, however, in the actions of this shoe thrower. He has proven that Leftist ideology is the same, regardless of culture or creed. His hatred for George W. Bush is as deep and unhinged as the proudest of Lefty's here in the United States. Indeed, I am certain that many are envious of the gumption and the opportunity that this ungrateful socialite seized upon. What self respecting journalist has not dreamed of throwing a shoe, the most vile and profound insult that can be dished out in the Islamic world, at the President?
The Lefty journalists have been hurling insults at the President for the better part of a decade. From "terrorist" to "murderer" to "village idiot", writers have filled columns with insults aimed at the president, all from the comfort and protection of their office and employer. But none have ever had the courage to throw an actual, tangible insult. And so, perhaps this act of defiance and courage from a spoiled Arab writer is indeed an act of defiance and courage.
He threw a real insult at the President. Not literally, but literally.
Something no American journalist ever had the gumption to do.
